Abstract

Como espacio para la acción humana, la política abre la posibilidad de que acontezca algo nuevo. Pero las novedades necesitan plegarse al orden de lo posible, aunque haya posibilidades que nos cueste anticipar en el presente. Partiendo de una propuesta para formar gobierno comentada con insistencia durante los últimos meses, en este artículo se examina la compatibilidad entre el reformismo y el progresismo en política. Las diferencias entre ambos no sólo se detectan a nivel identitario-partidario sino también conceptual. No obstante, el propósito del artículo consiste en proponer un modo “existencial” para distinguir reformismo y progresismo, pues al final se trata de orientaciones hacia la política que difieren en la actitud frente a la realidad que adoptan sus adherentes. Una actitud que, en gran medida, se define por la importancia que cada uno atribuye a la tradición.

Due to its being a space for human action, politics opens the possibility for something new to happen. But novelties cannot exceed the realm of the possible, even though there are possibilities which are themselves unforeseeable. Drawing from a proposal for a coalition government that has received widespread attention during the last couple of months, this paper looks into the alleged compatibility between reformism and progressivism in politics. These differ not only at the conceptual level, but also in the political identities they inspire. However, the aim of this paper is to show that the best way to distinguish them must be found elsewhere, i.e., in the different attitudes towards reality embraced by its supporters. The varying significance attributed to tradition in both dispositions plays a decisive role in defining this attitude.
